Role of Ultrasound in Early Detection of Molar Pregnancy

OBJECTIVES The objective of this study was to investigate the role ultrasound in detection early pregnancies presenting with placental molar changes. METHODOLOGY This retrospective carried out at Radiology department Hayatabad Medical Complex, Peshawar, between Aug 2020 and July 2021. All cases suspected changes were evaluated from 10-14 weeks gestation. patient referred our because fetal abnormality, maternal disease or age family previous pregnancy history identified an ongoing screening for aneuploidy by measurement nuchal translucency thickness. Transabdominal transvaginal sonography used examine fetus placenta. RESULTS Total 85 patients enrolled study. Age ranged 20-45 years a mean 32.5 years. There 60(70.6%) complete moles (CM) 25(27.4%) partial (PM) on ultrasound. In case mole coexisting normal singleton twin pregnancy, placenta clearly separated placenta, whereas structures dispersed inside mass. CONCLUSION Ultrasound remains diagnostic challenge. Data suggest that there has been increase both predictive value sensitivity over time; however, criteria remain ill defined. Prior managing miscarriage, being aware possibility will guide treatment allow adequate follow-up.
